MEN’S BASKETBALL: Cameron Gooden netted 21 points as the revamped Surrey 89ers gained a narrow 87-85 win over London in their first match of this year’s Super League Trophy.

Defending champions Cheshire came from behind to earn an 84-79 victory at Sheffield on Sunday evening, Leicester brushed aside Bristol 91-69 and Newcastle enjoyed wins over Sheffield and Manchester, who also lost out 99-77 in East Kilbride to Caledonia.

MEN’S CRICKET: Spin twins Prabath Jayasuriya and Nishan Peiris both enjoyed nine-wicket hauls as Sri Lanka thumped New Zealand by an innings and 154 runs to complete a 2-0 series victory.
