MORE than 150 artists and organisations have united in their call for Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) to join the boycott of Israel.
Less than a fortnight before the theatre hosts the Glasgow Film Festival, an open letter from Art Workers for Palestine has urged it to join more than 150 Scottish cultural institutions and endorse the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel.
The letter’s signatories include creatives Farhana Sheikh, Paul Laverty, Darren McGarvey, Charlotte Church, as well as Glasgow University rector Dr Ghassan Abu Sittah, and Unite Hospitality’s GFT branch.
“GFT is widely recognised and praised as a socially progressive space, showcasing films from oppressed and marginalised perspectives,” the letter says.
“It is time for GFT to stand with the vast majority of its audiences, workers, partners and film-makers, and take a stand for Palestinian liberation.”
A GFT spokeswoman said the letter had been received and the Glasgow Film Board “will review it through our internal procedures.”
