BRITAIN’S prospective prime minister Andy Burnham was accused today of not understanding devolution after a copy-and-pasted article appeared in different publications.

Welsh news site Wales Online, publisher of the Western Mail, said Mr Burnham provided an “error-filled” article for publication spelling out his pitch to Wales.

The publisher said the article was similar to features written for London and Scotland, but with the names of places changed.

Mr Burnham said in his article that he wanted to take action on housing, business rates and education — all devolved matters.

Plaid Cymru’s Flint/Wrexham Senedd Member Carrie Harper said: “Andy Burnham talks a good talk when it comes to devolution, but his lazy, copy-and-paste opinion piece proves his understanding of the matter stops at Offa’s Dyke.

“He has already backtracked on his commitment to fair funding for Wales, and now he threatens to undermine our democracy.”

Welsh Labour decline to comment or confirm whether it had been consulted on the article before publication.
