Piercing spotlight on abuse
MARIA DUARTE recommends a film on the child sex crimes perpetrated by Catholic priests

Spotlight (15)
Directed by Tom McCarthy
4/5

THE VITAL importance of investigative journalism, fast becoming a dying art, is celebrated in this compelling drama which shines the spotlight once more on the scandals surrounding the Catholic church and child sex abuse.

Nominated for six Oscars, the film recounts the exposé by the Boston Globe’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Spotlight team in 2002 of how the church systematically covered up the widespread paedophilia being carried out by more than 70 priests in the city.
