AFRICA: More than 20 people are missing after clashes between fishermen errupted at the Kenya-Ethiopia border, government officials said.

Kenya said it has deployed heavy security to the Omo River and is working with authorities in Ethiopia to find the missing people and 15 boats.

The region has a history of conflict, including livestock raids in neighbouring villages.

 

SOUTH KOREA:  A section of a highway under construction collapsed in South Korea today, killing four workers and injuring six others, officials said.

Ten people were working on the site near the city of Cheonan when it collapsed, causing them to fall and become trapped in the rubble.

One was found dead in the rubble, eight injured workers were sent to hospitals before two of them were declared dead, and another was later discovered dead.

 

US: Elon Musk has once again vowed to fire federal workers who do not respond to an email asking them to list five accomplishments from the previous week.

The billionaire’s renewed threat came just hours after the US Office of Personnel Management clarified that responses to the request were optional.

More than 20 civil service workers have resigned from his Department of Government Efficiency, saying they refuse to use their technical expertise to “dismantle critical public services.”

 

US: The trial of a Chicago landlord accused of murder, attempted murder and a hate crime in a 2023 attack on a Palestinian-American woman and her young son began today and will last a week.

Joseph Czuba, 73, is charged with fatally stabbing six-year-old Wadee Alfayoumi and the wounding of Hanan Shaheen on October 14, 2023.

Authorities said the family was targeted because of their Islamic religion in what they described as a response to Hamas’s actions on October 7 2023.
