INDIA: Indian authorities today imposed an indefinite curfew and shut down the internet in some parts of the north-eastern state of Manipur following protests from students against a fresh wave of ethnic violence, which has hit the state for more than a year.
At least nine people have been killed and several injured in the last 10 days as armed groups launched drone attacks and rockets from home-made devices.
ISRAEL: Tel Aviv said today that Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a US activist who was killed in the West Bank last week, was likely shot “indirectly and unintentionally” by Israeli forces who were aiming at someone else.
Ms Eygi, an activist from Seattle, was killed last Friday following a demonstration against Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, according to Jonathan Pollak, an Israeli protester who witnessed the shooting.
RUSSIA: More than 140 Ukrainian drones targeted multiple Russian regions overnight, including Moscow and surrounding areas, killing at least one person, officials said today, in one of the biggest drone attacks on Russian soil by Ukrainians.
A woman died and three people were injured in the town of Ramenskoye, just outside Moscow, where drones hit two multi-storey residential buildings and started fires, Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said.
AUSTRALIA: The Australian government today promised to legislate this year to enforce a minimum age for children to access social media, but it has yet to announce how ages will be verified.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the government would soon trial age verification technology with a view to banning children from opening social media accounts.
The line would be drawn between the ages of 14 and 16.
