
YEMEN: Three mariners were killed and two others wounded in a suspected Houthi attack on a Liberian-flagged cargo ship in the Red Sea, EU naval forces said.
The Greek-owned Eternity C was attacked overnight Monday into today. The Houthis did not immediately claim responsibility for this incident but admitted to an earlier attack on another vessel.
UGANDA: Opposition figure Kizza Besigye’s new party, the People’s Front for Freedom, was launched in Kampala today as he remained jailed on treason charges.
Supporters at the event carried a portrait of Mr Besigye, who’s been in custody since November. He was expected to speak on the launch via video or written message.
SLOVAKIA: Juraj Cintula appeared in court today over the 2024 attempted assassination of Prime Minister Robert Fico.
The 72-year-old, indicted on terrorism charges, shouted pro-democracy slogans on arrival. He was arrested immediately after the shooting on May 15 last year.
RUSSIA: Roman Starovoit, a former transport minister, was found dead from a gunshot wound hours after being dismissed by President Vladimir Putin.
Authorities were suspecting suicide, with a registered pistol found near his body in a parked Tesla, but an investigation was underway today. He was discovered in a wooded area outside Moscow at age 53.
