PAKISTAN: A military court today sentenced retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, a former spy chief of Pakistan, to 14 years in prison, more than a year after court-martial proceedings began against him on multiple charges, including engaging in political activities and violating the Official Secrets Act, the military said.

In a statement, it said the Field General Court Martial tried General Hameed, the former director-general of the Inter Services Intelligence under the Pakistan Army Act during proceedings that lasted 15 months.

MIGRANTS: A boat carrying migrants overturned early today on the Sava river in eastern Croatia, killing at least one person and injuring several others, officials said.

The accident happened in the town of Slavonski Brod, by the border with Bosnia. Migrants were apparently trying to cross the Sava River in dense fog when their boat capsized, rescuers told HRT television.

The migrants’ nationalities have not been specified.

MYANMAR: At least 34 people were killed and dozens injured after air attacks from the country’s military hit a hospital in opposition Arakan Army controlled town of Mrauk-U in Rakhine state in the west of the country, it was reported today.

The Myanmar military has issued no immediate comment.

SOUTH KOREA: South Korea’s former acting leader Choi Sang-mok was today hit with charges related to the brief imposition of martial law in December 2024 by then-President Yoon Suk Yeol.

An investigation team led by independent counsel Cho Eun-suk charged Mr Choi with dereliction of duty for not fully restoring the three vacant seats at the nine-member Constitutional Court, which was considering whether to unseat President Yoon.
