
SUDAN: Over 40 suspected foreign mercenaries were killed and a military aircraft, believed to belong to the United Arab Emirates, was destroyed in a Sudanese air strike on Nyala airport in Darfur on Wednesday.
The Sudanese military said the plane was suspected to be supplying Rapid Support Forces rebels with arms.
SOUTH KOREA: Investigators requested a warrant yesterday for the arrest of jailed former president Yoon Suk Yeol’s wife Kim Keon Hee.
The team said they suspected violations of financial market and political funding laws and acceptance of bribes.
Mr Yoon was imprisoned after a failed attempt to impose martial law. He refused questioning yesterday for a second time, struggling with prison officers until they gave up for fear of injuring him.
RUSSIA: The Kremlin says a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump has been agreed and could take place as early as next week.
But it denied suggestions that it had endorsed Mr Trump’s proposal of a three-way summit including Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Moscow said the meeting might take place in the United Arab Emirates.
ITALY: The government has approved a bridge from the mainland to Sicily, a project first envisiaged by the Roman empire and repeatedly commissioned and cancelled by Italian governments since 1969.
The 2.2-mile bridge spanning the Strait of Messina would be the longest suspension bridge in the world. The government says it should count in helping to meet US demands for 5 per cent of GDP to be spent on military-related projects.
