AUSTRALIA: An unnamed 16-year-old boy has been charged with terrorism offences after he stabbed two Christian clerics during a Sydney church service which was broadcast online.

Authorities said the stabbing was declared a terrorist act due to the teenager’s suspected religious motivation and because he travelled up to 90 minutes from his home to the Christ the Good Shepherd Church for the attack.

INDONESIA: Residents near an erupting volcano on Sulawesi Island continued to be evacuated today due to spreading ash, falling rock, hot volcanic clouds and the possibility of a tsunami.

An additional 11,000 people were told to leave their homes in addition to 1,000 who have already done so. A joint local authorities team was combing the villages surrounding the volcano and evacuating people by boat.

UKRAINE: The air force claimed it had shot down a Russian strategic bomber today, contradicting reports from Moscow that the plane had crashed in a sparsely populated area due to a malfunction.

Neither claim could be verified. Meanwhile, Russian missiles struck cities in the central Dnipro region of Ukraine, killing eight people, including a 14-year-old girl and eight-year-old boy, also injuring 28, local officials said.

UNITED STATES: More than 100 students, including the daughter of Minnesota politician Ilhan Omar, have been arrested after New York police cleared out a 30-hour Gaza solidarity camp at Colombia University.

The university’s president said the “extraordinary step” came after multiple warnings had been issued to the hundreds of student protesters. Nemat Shafik claimed that it was necessary to provide a safe environment. All participating students have also been suspended.
