KENYA: A court ruled today that the 2022 police shooting and killing of a Pakistani journalist in Nairobi was unlawful and unconstitutional, a lawyer and his family said.

Justice Stella Mutuku, in the ruling in Nairobi, also faulted Kenya’s attorney general and the director of public prosecutions for laxity in investigating the shooting of Arshad Sharif, after police opened fire at his car at a roadblock checkpoint.

INDONESIA: A landslide triggered by torrential rains crashed onto an unauthorised gold mining operation on Indonesia’s Sulawesi island, killing at least 12 people, officials said today. Another 48 people were reported missing.

More than 100 villagers were digging for grains of gold on Sunday in the remote Bone Bolango district in Gorontalo province when tons of mud plunged down the surrounding hills and buried their makeshift camps.

MYANMAR: The Arakan Army, battling the country’s military government, said it captured an airport serving the country’s top world-class beach resort, marking the first time resistance forces have seized such a facility.

Residents of the area in the southern part of the western state of Rakhine, along with local media, also reported the seizure of Thandwe airport, about 160 miles north west of Yangon, Myanmar’s biggest city.

UKRAINE: A major Russian missile attack across Ukraine killed at least 28 people and injured more than 50 on Monday, officials said, with one missile reportedly striking a large children’s hospital in the capital, Kiev.

The Russian barrage targeted five Ukrainian cities with more than 40 missiles of different types, hitting apartment buildings and public infrastructure, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a social media post.
