STRIKING vets across south Wales announced today a further round of industrial action for fair pay.
Nearly 100 veterinary workers, including nurses and vets, at Valley Vets have been on strike since July 16 until tomorrow and will strike again between August 6 and 23 after the company refused to enter meaningful negotiations.
Valley Vets offered its lowest-paid staff a rise that takes them slightly above the minimum wage, despite 80 per cent reporting they regularly borrow money to meet basic living costs and 5 per cent use foodbanks.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “This is nothing short of a disgrace.
“Our members are rightly furious at such pathetic behaviour and as a result will now be taking further strike action.”
Valley Vets is owned by VetPartners, which recorded gross profits of £553 million in 2023, an increase of nearly £120m from the year before.
A company spokesperson said: “We are disappointed that Unite plans to go ahead with further industrial action as this will cause further disruption to services for clients.”
