Ukraine blocks access to German socialist daily Junge Welt under wartime censorship

UKRAINE has blocked access to the German socialist newspaper Junge Welt’s website, the paper reported today.

Anyone seeking to access the site from within Ukraine gets the message that “this internet resource has been blocked,” citing a law on electronic communications and martial law, which President Volodymyr Zelensky decreed following Russia’s invasion in February 2022. The site has been blocked since the beginning of the week.

About 4,600 websites have been blocked in Ukraine under wartime censorship, mostly Russian and Belarusian ones.

“Junge Welt’s reporting on activities of the fascist Azov militia and the background to Nato’s proxy war against Russia, fought with the blood of Ukrainians, have struck a nerve in Kiev,” Junge Welt editor-in-chief Nick Brauns said.

“The Zelensky government, having already silenced opposition voices in its own country, is now also resorting to censorship measures against critical media from abroad. This contradicts the Kiev government’s claims to defend so-called Western values sharply.”
