Uefa ready to select Euro 2024 host nation

WHILE football fans around the continent attempt to get their heads around the concept of the all-new Nations League and how it impacts on qualifiers for a European Championship in 2020 which uniquely will be hosted in 12 different countries, none of which may qualify to even compete in it, Uefa will today select its (single) host nation for the 17th edition of the Euros to be held in 2024, barely 18 months after the end of the World Cup finals in Qatar.

The two bidding nations are Germany, who stood aside to allow Wembley to host the semi-finals and final of Euro 2020 and Turkey which unsuccessfully bid for Euros 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Twelve years after successfully hosting the Fifa World Cup, nine of Germany’s host cities on that occasion are hoping to stage matches in 2024, the one addition being Duesseldorf which hosted matches the only other time Germany staged the European Championship in 1988.
