FOR those of you keeping a close eye on men’s football, you will know that transfer deadline day was here and has now gone, with the window closing 7pm sharp last night.
Here’s a round-up of men’s football’s biggest transfer news, with some surprises, bold decisions and some not-so shocking moves.
BRENTFORD: Arsenal midfielder Reiss Nelson is set to join Brentford on loan for the rest of the season.
The 25-year-old made 11 Premier League appearances on loan at Fulham last season but featured only once in the league for the Gunners. He will become the ninth new arrival for Keith Andrews’s side.
BRIGHTON: Tariq Lamptey has left Brighton to join Serie A club Fiorentina for an undisclosed fee.
The right-back, 24, scored five goals and registered 12 assists in 122 appearances for the Seagulls after arriving from Chelsea in January 2020.
LEICESTER: Championship Leicester have signed Argentinian striker Julian Carranza on loan. The 25-year-old has joined the Foxes for the rest of the season from Dutch side Feyenoord.
He told Foxes Hub: “I’ve been watching Leicester for a long time so […] I know the team, I know the institution as well. When the opportunity came up, I had no doubts about it.”
LIVERPOOL: Liverpool have agreed a British record £125 million deal to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle.
The Reds had a £110m offer rejected in August and since then the 25-year-old has not trained with or played for Newcastle, but in the final hours of the transfer window a deal has been reached to end the impasse.
The striker was set to undergo a medical yesterday, with Newcastle relenting by accepting the player does not want to play for them any longer. United also announced the signing of striker Nick Woltemade on Saturday.
MAN CITY: Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is poised for a transfer deadline day move to Manchester City with the Premier League club understood to have agreed a fee of around €35m with Paris St Germain.
The 26-year-old has been on the lookout for a move after his omission from PSG’s Super Cup squad to face Tottenham last month indicated he was not viewed as the European champions’ number one.
MAN UNITED: Jadon Sancho looks set for a deadline-day move to Aston Villa as talks with Manchester United progress over a season-long loan.
The 25-year-old has fallen well short of expectations since making a £73m move to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
Sancho has made just 83 appearances and scored 12 goals for United, who have been looking to shift him all summer — just as they were this time last year.
SUNDERLAND: Sunderland have agreed a loan deal with an option to buy for defender Lutsharel Geertruida.
The 25-year-old is set to move from RB Leipzig, the club he joined in August 2024 and made 24 Bundesliga appearances for during the team’s seventh-placed finish last season.
It is also understood that Sunderland are in talks with Ajax regarding a deal for Brian Brobbey.
WEST HAM: Defender Emerson Palmieri has left West Ham to join Marseille on a permanent deal.
The 31-year-old full-back joined the Hammers from Chelsea in 2022 and made 113 appearances, scoring five goals.
WOLVES: Wolves have signed Nigeria international Tolu Arokodare on a four-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.
The 24-year-old striker joins the Molineux club from Belgian side Genk, who are still awaiting their first points of the Premier League campaign.
Tolu scored 23 times across all competitions last season and won the Belgian Pro League Golden Boot last term.
WREXHAM: Wrexham have signed midfielder Ben Sheaf on a three-year deal for a fee understood to be in the region of £6.5m.
The 27-year-old arrives from Coventry, the club he joined in 2020 on an initial loan before signing permanently and went on to feature 176 times for the Sky Blues.
