MEN’S FOOTBALL: Mexico’s Pachuca are the first winners of Fifa’s new Derby of the Americas title after earning a surprise 3-0 win over recently crowned Copa Libertadores champions Botafogo in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday.

Pachuca will next face Egypt’s al-Ahly on Saturday for the Challenger Cup with the winner going on to play European Champions Real Madrid in the newly branded Intercontinental Cup final next week.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: The first round of the revamped Super League Cup tips off on Friday night, with the three non-league clubs in action all having home court advantage.

Essex Rebels host Bristol before St Mirren welcome cup-holders London to Paisley’s Lagoon Leisure Centre and Falkirk Fury play Leicester.

The only Super League fixture tomorrow evening sees bottom of the table Manchester looking for their first points of the season against Surrey.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Rangers warmed up for Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash with Glasgow City by moving one point clear in the Scottish Premier League after another goal from Katie Wilkinson earned them a 1-0 win at Motherwell.

Glasgow slipped from the summit following their 0-0 draw at third-placed Hearts while Spartans drew 1-1 at Partick Thistle in Wednesday evening’s only other Premier League fixture.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Valencia maintained the EuroCup’s only 100 per cent record after their 86-78 win at struggling Hamburg made it 10 wins from 10.

Besiktas beat Istanbul 89-82 in the big Turkish derby, Vilnius Wolves edged Tel Aviv 104-100 and Lithuania’s Panevezys claimed a surprise 93-87 over Jerusalem at Bulgaria’s Samokov arena.

Poland’s Trefl Sopot are still without a win after losing out 70-82 against Trentino.
