Sinner beats Musetti to set up semi-final clash with Auger-Aliassime
Jannik Sinner (left) of Italy, shakes hands with Lorenzo Musetti, of Italy, after defeating him during the quarterfinal round of the U.S. Open tennis championships, September 3, 2025, in New York

JANNIK SINNER maintained his perfect record today against a fellow Italian with victory over Lorenzo Musetti to reach the US Open semi-finals.

The world number one has faced his countrymen 16 times at tour level and won each time, including three times against Musetti.

That never looked like changing here, with Sinner easing to a 6-1 6-4 6-2 win in exactly two hours to set up a semi-final clash against Felix Auger-Aliassime tomorrow.

Novak Djokovic has also set up a semi-final blockbuster against Carlos Alcaraz at Flushing Meadows tomorrow, as he managed to keep his dreams of a 25th grand slam title alive.

Djokovic overcame Taylor Fritz and a rowdy New York crowd, quelling the American’s fightback to end hopes of a home men’s champion for another year.

Fritz had hoped to finally secure a first victory over Djokovic at the 11th time of asking but the majority of the big moments went the way of the Serbian, who triumphed 6-3 7-5 3-6 6-4 after three hours and 24 minutes.
