SCOTLAND’S NHS waiting lists have hit another record high of more than 840,300 delayed treatments, official figures show.

The latest data for March, published today, shows the total has increased by 7 per cent compared to the same point last year.

Patients waiting more than a year for treatment rose by 21 per cent to 87,916 over the same period.

Of these, year-or-more waits for outpatients rose by 47 per cent to 46,828. The figure for inpatients rose by 3 per cent to 37,761, while diagnostics fell by 12 per cent to 3,327.

Patients waiting more than eight hours in A&E in the week ending May 19 meanwhile rose by 17.5 per cent compared with the previous week.

Scottish Labour health spokeswoman Jackie Baillie blamed the “rotten” Tories and “incompetent” SNP, saying that the “scandalous waiting list figures show that Scots are being let down by two bad governments in their greatest hour of need.”
