DOUBLE Olympic champion Matt Richards added men’s 200m freestyle gold to his 100m title at the GB Swimming Championships in London.
Richards stormed back over the final 50 metres to win in 1min 44.77sec and edge out James Guy (1:45.38) and Duncan Scott (1:45.44).
“You definitely feel the pressure and feel the anticipation – there’s a certain buzz around the building on the night of the 200m free,” said Richards.
“I’ve always found that I race my best when I race like I did when I was a little kid, and that’s to get out there, give it everything I’ve got, and try to get my hand on the wall first.
“That attitude has led to every success I’ve had so far.”
Angharad Evans broke her own national record in the women’s 100m breaststroke, clocking 1:04.96 to become the 10th fastest woman in the event’s history.
Evans said: “To swim a 64 [seconds] has been my mission, so I’m super happy with that.”
Josh Gammon edged out Jacob Peters by 0.01sec to win the men’s 50m butterfly, with both dipping underneath the European Championships qualifying time. Gammon touched first in 23.10sec.
Eva Okaro (women’s 500m freestyle) and Oliver Morgan (men’s 200m backstroke) each won their third title of the Championships, while Amelie Blocksidge claimed her third consecutive women’s 800m freestyle crown.
