Railway revenue and gateline workers set to walk out
CLEAR MESSAGE: RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey

RAIL staff working on revenue protection and at ticket barriers for Northern Trains services are set to strike over pay and conditions, their union has announced.

The workers, who are employed by Carlisle Support Services, voted to withdraw their labour after the firm failed to make an offer despite nine months of negotiations, said rail union RMT.

Staff will walk out for 24 hours on September 2 before beginning continuous action short of a strike the following day, refusing to scan tickets or charge company equipment at home.

RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said: “Our members do vital front-line work keeping stations safe and services running and they deserve respect and a fair pay rise.

“Their strike action on September 2 will send a clear message to Carlisle Support Services that it is time to come back with a serious offer and ultimately take these workers back in-house, directly employed by Northern.”

Carlisle Support Services was contacted for comment.
