Poverty campaigners warn cost-of-living crisis taking a terrible toll in Wales

POVERTY campaigners warned yesterday that the cost-of-living crisis was taking a terrible toll on people in Wales.

New insights gathered by YouGov on behalf of the Bevan Foundation have revealed that families across Wales are continuing to struggle to make ends meet.

The latest data shows no improvement in the proportion of people able to afford the essentials, but it is clear that the cost-of-living crisis is still being deeply felt in communities across Wales.

Bevan Foundation’s Steffan Evans said: “Last week the Chancellor rightly increased investment in public services.

“But without getting to grips with the hardship facing too many families the Chancellor’s ambitions will be undermined.

“Ensuring that all people in Wales are able to afford the essentials is of benefit to everyone,” Mr Evans said.

More than four in 10 people in Wales (44 per cent) reported their mental health had been affected by their financial position, while nearly three in 10 (29 per cent) reported that their physical health had also been affected.
