PLAID CYMRU is set to unveil five pledges for rural Wales as part of its general election campaign.
The Welsh nationalist party promised to be the voice of rural Wales in Westminster as it made its pitch ahead of its formal manifesto launch on Thursday.
The party said that rural communities face challenges associated with distance from key services, limited job opportunities and low incomes, a rural premium, lack of public transport infrastructure and social isolation.
Plaid pledged to increase GP numbers, invest in local high streets to keep shops, pubs and community centres open, launch a Welsh broadband infrastructure company to improve rural connectivity, a rural crime team and to rejig the rural fuel duty relief scheme.
Caerfyrddin candidate Ann Davies said: “Plaid Cymru is promising to be the voice of rural Wales in Westminster.
“From offering alternative methods to the destruction of our beautiful countryside I will fight for Caerfyrddin in Westminster and demand fairness for rural Wales.”
