THE US Department of Defence has decided to suspend deliveries of air defence systems, missiles and precision-guided munitions to Ukraine, online news outlet Politico reported today.
Citing Pentagon sources, Politico said the decision to halt the shipments had been initiated by US Under Secretary of Defence for Policy Elbridge Colby.
The decision followed an internal review that revealed how rapidly US ammunition stockpiles are being depleted.
Politico sources said the decision to suspend the shipments had originally been approved in June 2024 under former president Joe Biden’s administration but has only now been put into effect.
Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell told reporters: “Our service members are fully equipped to deter against any threat.”
He insisted that “the Senate’s recent passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill ensures that our weapons and defence systems are modernised to protect against 21st-century threats for generations to come.”
Russia appears to have no problems in producing enough munitions to continue its war on Ukraine.
Moscow’s forces are continuing to gain ground in the strategic eastern logistics hub of Pokrovsk, the capture of which would hand them a major battlefield victory and bring them closer to conquering the entire Donetsk region.
