Palestine Action ban must be lifted, NEU says
Protesters write on placards outside the High Court, central London, February 13, 2026

MINISTERS must immediately lift the ban on Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation after the High Court ruled its proscription unlawful in February, the National Education Union said today.

Delegates at its annual conference also backed calls to drop charges against people arrested for protesting against the ban with Defend our Juries.

The NEU was also instructed to work to oppose proposed new police powers to ban demonstrations that have “cumulative disruption” under the Crime and Policing Bill.

Moving the motion, City of Derby delegate Kieran Picken described the arrests of Palestine Coalition leaders Ben Jamal, Chris Nineham, Sophie Bolt and Alex Kenny during a peaceful National March for Palestine in January 2025 as “disgusting.”

“If Labour is getting away with such arrests … imagine what Reform would be like” he said.

NEU leader Daniel Kebede said: “The freedoms to organise, of assembly and of speech matter; and the NEU will defend them.”
