One in three dissatisfied and stressed by job, survey finds

ONE in three workers feel dissatisfied and not engaged in their job, affecting their productivity, a survey by the Royal Voluntary Service has shown.

A similar proportion said they were stressed at work, with one in five complaining of high workloads and a lack of recognition for their efforts.

More than six in 10 of 2,000 workers polled agreed that having an opportunity to use their skills and expertise for community benefit would increase job satisfaction and engagement.

The volunteer charity’s chief revenue officer Carole Urey warned that these feelings not only reduce productivity but can have an impact on retaining staff.

She said: “Volunteering through workplace programmes is a proven way to improve wellbeing, connection and productivity, while contributing to society.”

Work-related stress was declared a “crisis” by the TUC last month after official statistics showed 22 million working days were lost due to the issue in 2024-25.
