RUSSIA declared today that there was “no alternative” to continuing the war in Ukraine, rejecting US President Donald Trump’s claim that Kiev could regain all lost territory.
Speaking at the United Nations general assembly on Tuesday, Mr Trump said that he believed Ukraine could win back all land seized by Russia, marking a sharp departure from his earlier calls for concessions.
The Kremlin dismissed the idea today, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov insisting Russia’s economy fully met the army’s needs and that it was a ”big mistake” to think Ukraine could recover occupied areas.
At the assembly today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned leaders that the world is in ”the most destructive arms race in history” and urged swift action against Russia.
”Ukraine is only the first and now Russian drones are already flying across Europe, and Russian operations are already spreading across countries, and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin wants to continue this war by expanding it,” Mr Zelensky said.
He said Ukraine had been forced to build ”underground schools and underground hospitals” and asked: ”Do you have protection against similar threats?
”Stopping Putin now is cheaper than trying to protect every port and every ship from terrorists with sea drones.
”If it takes weapons, if it takes pressure on Russia, then it must be done, and it must be done now."
Mr Zelensky said security guarantees for Ukraine could make national security ”a right for everyone.”
His speech followed a meeting with Mr Trump, which he praised as ”good talks.”
Russia was a repeated target in the assembly today, with Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics claiming Moscow was ”willing to inflict destruction and misery,” while Moldova’s Prime Minister Dorin Recean accused Russia of spending hundreds of millions of euros to ”take power” in his country’s elections.
