Nearly two-thirds of Brits think benefits eligibility is confusing, poll reveals

NEARLY two-thirds of adults across Britain think that benefits eligibility is confusing, a poll commissioned by anti-poverty charity Turn2us revealed today.

According to the poll, over three-quarters — 77 per cent — of respondents also believe it would be difficult to claim benefits if their circumstances changed.

Turn2us, which works to simplify access to crucial support, says that the statistics “underline the critical barrier people face at a time when many are struggling to afford the basics.”

The charity has now launched the Let’s Get The System Working campaign, and is helping people navigate the benefits landscape with a new calculator.

Matthew Greenwood shared his experience with the calculator, saying: “We spent hours trawling through different websites trying to find what we need, and it can become a bit of a soul-destroying process.

“We wouldn’t have found out about a one-off Universal Credit payment without going through the Turn2us benefits calculator.”

According to software company Policy in Practice, nearly £23 billion in income-related benefits and support goes unclaimed each year.
