MSPs have called for views on proposed new sustainability laws, which could have a “significant impact” on Scotland’s public sector.
Almost three years in the making, the Wellbeing and Sustainable Development (Scotland) Bill, tabled by Labour MSP Sarah Boyack, would place a new duty on public bodies to promote sustainable development and well-being in their work.
The Bill also seeks to define what those principles are and create a new post of future generations commissioner to oversee progress.
Holyrood’s social justice and social security committee convener Collette Stevenson has urged the public to get in touch to have their say.
She said: “This Bill could have a significant impact on how decisions are made across Scotland’s public sector.
“We’re keen to hear what the public sector and local authorities make of the proposals, and we’d also like to hear from professionals, academics, children and young people.
“By sharing your views with us, you’ll help us explore how the proposals could work in practice and what the changes could mean for Scotland’s future generations.”
The consultation ends on August 24.
