Hudson-Odoi says Dyche has ‘reconnected’ Forest squad

NOTTINGHAM Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi says boss Sean Dyche has “reconnected” the squad after Ange Postecoglou’s ill-fated stint.

Dyche is Forest’s third manager of the season after Nuno Espirito Santo was followed by former Tottenham boss Postecoglou’s disastrous 39-day spell which saw him lose six of his eight games in charge.

Dyche was appointed in October and has breathed fresh life into Forest’s season as they are unbeaten in four games and won 3-0 at Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.

Forest’s success under Nuno last season was built on great team spirit, which Hudson-Odoi described as being “scratched” with the early-season turmoil.

“I think Sean and his staff have come in and done an amazing job,” the former Chelsea winger said.

“Since they’ve been here you can tell the energy around the group has changed and everybody’s just working as hard as we can to get the best possible results.

“The energy that he has brought here, the bond and strength that we have had before will come back and you can tell that we are wanting to fight for every game we play in.

“A lot has changed, I think it was a bit scratched a while ago, so I think he’s come in now, and you can tell the bonds, the group has reconnected very well and everybody is just focusing on doing what we know best, which is playing football and enjoying football.

“I think it’s just the connections that were a bit lost for a bit of a while, but now I think everything’s connecting back nicely.

“Everybody’s working hard to do the right things and hopefully keep getting good results.”

Forest will continue their quest to improve their standing in the league phase of the Europa League with an emotional visit of Malmo on Thursday.

Brian Clough’s side beat the Swedish outfit in the 1979 European Cup final in what was the most famous night of the club’s history.

Members of both teams will be presented at the City Ground before kick off and Dyche reflected on his memories.

“I remember the goal; everyone remembers that one. Trevor Francis, back stick, rolling across the shot-put ring,” he said. “I remember that. I don’t know every detail of it, but I remember my parents — my dad, mainly — having the TV on and watching it.

“Bryn Gunn, who was involved at that time, is a mate of mine; we played together at Chesterfield at the end of his career and the beginning of my mine. So there are some links to it.

“He showed me the medal, actually. It’s really, really tiny.

“The club are doing both sides proud, remembering a big day for both clubs but certainly for Nottingham Forest.”

Forest will be without Morgan Gibbs-White as the England midfielder nurses an undisclosed issue.

“We’re just settling an issue down with him. We’re hopeful it is nothing too serious but he will miss this one,” Dyche added.
