Hamas proposes new Gaza ceasefire proposals

HAMAS confirmed it had sent fresh proposals to mediators today in a bid to secure a new ceasefire in Gaza.

An Israeli source, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the proposal from Hamas as “workable.”

A statement from the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed receipt on Thursday but did not specify what it entailed.

The offer from Hamas comes a day after more than 100 charity and human rights groups said that Israel’s blockade and ongoing military offensive are pushing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip toward starvation.

It also comes as top United States envoy to the region Steve Witkoff was set for travel to Europe, where he is due to meet key leaders from the Middle East to discuss the latest ceasefire proposal and the possible release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners.

Meanwhile, the death toll in Gaza continues to soar.

At least 79 Palestinians, including 23 aid-seekers, have been killed and 453 others injured in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip today, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry.

In a statement issued on Telegram, the ministry said Israel’s attacks on Gaza have killed a total of 59,587 Palestinians and injured 143,498 others since the Hamas-led October 7 2023 attack on Israel, which killed 1,200 people and took around 250 hostages.

The total number of aid-seekers killed since May 27 when Israel imposed a new aid mechanism has reached 1,083, with more than 7,275 others injured, the ministry said.

Violence has also continued to spiral in the occupied West Bank since the October 7 attack, with 955 Palestinians having been killed.

Two teenagers, Ahmed al-Salah and Mohammed Khaled Alian Issa, were killed by the Israelis in the West Bank on Wednesday night, near the town of al-Khader, according to Palestinian health officials.

Israel’s military claimed its forces shot dead the pair after they threw Molotov cocktails toward a highway.

As outrage over Israel’s attacks and the starvation of the Palestinians continue to grow, more than 60 members of the European Parliament today demanded an emergency meeting with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.

The MEPs demanded sanctions against Israel, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and individuals within the organisation. They also demanded an arms embargo on Israel.
