Prepayment meter users are twice as likely to fall into debt due to cost of living, data shows

HOUSEHOLDS with prepayment meters are nearly twice as likely to fall into debt due to the cost-of-living crisis, according to new data.

According to Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures published today, 26 per cent of adults who pay for their gas or electricity upfront have reported using credit because of increases in the cost of living.

Among the rest of the population, that figure was 14 per cent, the ONS said.
