Govan Musical Festival opens
THE Govan Music Festival has got underway, showcasing talent from across the folk, fusion, world, classical, jazz and hip-hop music scene.
Now in its third year, and run by Govan’s regeneration orchestra The Govan Barons, the four-day event aims to celebrate the diversity of the district with “progressive performances,” not only from home-grown artists but some of Govan’s newest citizens.
Opening with a joint performance of Govan’s school choirs, the programme includes shows from The Glasgow Barons, leading Scottish rappers, a full day of “sober” events aimed at the recovery community on “Freed Up Friday.”
