EDUCATORS at Dundee & Angus College represented by the EIS-Fela union walked out in targeted action over pay today.
College Employers Scotland (CES) had put what it described as a final offer on the table for a rise of up to 16 per cent from September this year.
CES’s Gavin Donoghue claimed the increase “would keep college lecturers in Scotland as the UK’s best paid.”
But without a pay rise since 2021, the teachers have rejected the offer as subinflation.
The latest strike marks the first in a series of local actions targeting the constituencies of SNP-Green Scottish government ministers over the next month — as EIS colleagues in last year’s schools dispute did.
An EIS spokeswoman said: “EIS-Fela has escalated this long-running dispute to include targeted action, aimed at people with the ability to help resolve the dispute.
“The decision to move to targeted action is never taken lightly, but lecturers have now been waiting for a year and a half to receive a pay settlement during a major cost-of-living crisis.”
This week, Deputy First Minister and Finance Secretary Shona Robison and Further Education Minister Graeme Dey’s constituencies were targeted.
A Scottish government spokesperson said: “It is of course for the college unions and employers to negotiate pay, terms and conditions, not the Scottish government.
“The Further Education Minister will continue to engage with both management and unions as they work to reach a settlement that is fair and affordable.”
