THE “hangover” of the Tory-made cost-of-living crisis will last years, a report revealed today with families burdened by additional debt from the Christmas period.

Charity StepChange found that debt taken on from the festive season led to a surge in inquiries for advice from families and individuals.

A poll from the BBC found that a third of people who used credit to get through the holidays said they were not confident about their ability to repay.
