POORLY paid cleaners working at Hitachi Rail in Doncaster are taking strike action this weekend after rejecting their latest pay offer.
Members of the RMT union working for Bespoke Facilities Management, which has the Hitachi Rail contract, overwhelmingly voted no to the latest offer from the contractor.
Speaking ahead of the strikes, RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: “Some of our members are paid as little as £11 an hour on this contract and they want a reasonable increase to lift them out of the poverty trap.
He added: “The scourge of outsourcing must be ended and we welcome Labour’s manifesto commitment to insource widely on the railway and the rest of the economy.
“We will pursue our industrial campaign at Bespoke until we reach a negotiated settlement.”
The cleaners had previously voted to strike for pay justice in June.
