CHELSEA lost more ground in the Women’s Super League title race after being held to a 1-1 draw by Liverpool in St Helens, although the Blues still set a new league record of 34 successive games unbeaten.

The visitors, looking to close back to within a point of Manchester City following the leaders’ impressive derby win on Saturday, took an early lead through Alyssa Thompson, but Beata Olsson equalised before the break.

Chelsea substitute Aggie Beever-Jones had a second-half goal ruled out for offside as Sonia Bompastor’s side, who drew 1-1 at Arsenal last weekend, were left three points behind City and must now regroup for Thursday evening’s Champions League clash with Barcelona.

The Gunners were held to a goalless draw by north London rivals Tottenham at the BetWright Stadium on Sunday, missing the chance to get back into the top three.

West Ham finally secured a first league win, beating Everton 3-1 at the Chigwell Construction Stadium to move off the bottom of the table.

Saki Kumagai scored twice as London City Lionesses continued their impressive start to their first top-flight season with a 3-1 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Keiko Seike starred as Brighton ended their four-match winless WSL run in style with a 4-1 win over struggling Leicester.
