Our Biggest Experiment. A History of the Climate Crisis
by Alice Bell
Bloomsbury Sigma £10.99

ALICE BELL’S book, Our Biggest Experiment. A History of the Climate Crisis, begins with an amazing revelation. It was as early as 1856 when the world was first warned that an atmosphere heavy with carbon dioxide could send temperatures soaring.

The person behind this revelation was Eunice Newton Foote, scientist, inventor, women’s rights campaigner from New York, but because she was female, no-one paid much attention.
