THE British military has flown 50 surveillance missions over Gaza since December, Declassified UK revealed today.
The flights took off from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, averaging one a day.
The government declined to verify the figure, which Declassified uncovered through an examination of flight-tracking records.
The flights began on December 3, when two R1s flew over Gaza. Each flight lasts around six hours.
The Ministry of Defence announced the day before that it would begin surveillance flights “in support of the ongoing hostage rescue activity,” already two months after the hostages were taken. Currently two British hostages remain.
Stop the War convener Lindsey German said: “We know the British base in Cyprus has been used repeatedly to supply arms to Israel and is now being used to bomb Yemen, a sovereign country.
“So it comes as no surprise that it’s also being used to spy for the Israeli state.
“The UK continues to support genocide while trying to silence those organisations who reveal what is happening and those that protest against the country’s backing of Israel’s onslaught on the Palestinian people.”
