Billam-Smith out for revenge in title defence against Riakporhe

CHRIS BILLAM-SMITH will look to avenge the only defeat of his career when he defends his WBO cruiserweight title against British rival Richard Riakporhe on June 15.

Riakporhe prevailed by split decision when the pair first fought as fledgling professionals five years ago and while he has won all of his contests, it is Billam-Smith who ascended to world honours.

Billam-Smith (19-1, 13KOs) is set for the second defence of the crown he won by beating Lawrence Okolie last year, taking on Riakporhe at Selhurst Park, home of Crystal Palace Football Club.

“Richard is a good fighter, but I’ve improved hugely since we last met and he’s going to be in for a terrible night,” said Billam-Smith, who defeated Mateusz Masternak in his last outing in December.

Billam-Smith has won his last 10 fights since losing at the Millenium Dome to Riakporhe (17-0, 13KOs), who has vowed a repeat result this summer.

“My time has come,” said Palace fan Riakporhe. “The countdown is on. I can’t wait to knock Chris out and take his title.

“I’ve beaten him once and I’m ready to do it again. This time it’s not going to the judges.”
