Bakers union calls for complete arms embargo on Israel

THE bakers’ union made fresh calls for Labour to impose a complete arms embargo on Israel at its annual conference today.

Delegates said Britain should end its weapons trade with the regime until it withdraws and reverses the settlement of occupied territories in Gaza, West Bank and Golan Heights.

Speaking in favour of the motion, Premier Foods Stoke delegate and executive council member Michael Blundred said: “The Israeli government’s response to the attacks on October 7 has been so grossly out of proportion.

“We have all seen in on the news — it’s genocide, it’s pure and simple evil and our government is complicit in this and we should be yelling at those people to stop it.”

The motion also calls for an immediate ceasefire, for diplomatic and trade sanctions and enforcement of the International Criminal Court arrest warrant of those responsible for the genocide and massacre of Israelis on October 7.

Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU) delegates also passed a motion calling on foreign right-wing billionaires such as Elon Musk to stop attempts to interfere in British politics.

Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips said in January that “disinformation” spread by US President Donald Trump’s tech billionaire former adviser was “endangering” her after he labelled her a “rape genocide apologist” who should be jailed.

Moving the motion, Cardiff delegate Tony Mansell said: “He should stick to playing with spaceships and stop coming across as a wannabe Bond villain — he’s one step away from shaving his head and sitting in a swivel chair with a cat on his lap.”
