FRANCES O’GRADY lashed out today at the “new oligarchy” running Britain and called for a Jeremy Corbyn government.

The TUC general secretary criticised the “self-styled new bad boys” around Prime Minister Boris Johnson as she addressed delegates at the Brighton conference.

She said: “They think they are Westminster’s answer to the Sex Pistols: but, in truth, they’re just the bully-boys of the British elite.”

Ms O’Grady attacked the government for “slashing taxes for the wealthy and attacking safeguards for our welfare” and blamed the ongoing crisis in British politics on those who “resent playing by the rules and certainly don’t like paying their fair share of tax.”

She said: “When the bankers crashed the economy, working people paid the price. Greed ran riot while public services were cut to the bone.

“Many working-class people feel ignored, shut out from opportunities. It is hard to rise by graft and talent alone — the system is rigged from the start.

“People feel overwhelmed, anxious, intimidated. I say all the more reason to join the union: we stand up to bullies.”

Ms O’Grady took aim at House of Commons leader Jacob Rees-Mogg for slouching across the front bench during a crucial Brexit debate last week, criticising him for treating the bench “like his own sofa, when he is meant to be there to work and serve.”

She finished by calling for a “compassionate, tolerant” government that “respects working people” and brings hope for the future.

“Let’s get Jeremy in, and let’s get Boris Johnson packing,” she said.
