Government intervention in Scotland's gender reform is an attack on democracy, MSPs warn
WESTMINSTER’S threat to block Scotland’s Gender Recognition Reform Bill is an attack on devolution and democracy, MSPs warned yesterday.
Holyrood overwhelmingly voted to pass the Bill on Thursday following an intense week of debate, making it easier for trans people in Scotland to obtain a gender recognition certificate (GRC).
But within hours, Tory ministers hinted that they may step in to block the reforms, with Scottish Secretary Alister Jack saying he may invoke section 35 of the Scotland Act to give him an effective veto on the law.
