Anti-racists stage protest in Coventry following Britain First hotel invasion
Anti-racist campaigners in Coventry

ANTI-RACISM activists held solidarity protests in Coventry today after two hotels housing asylum-seekers in the city were invaded by racists from the Britain First group over the weekend.

The invasion of the hotels followed a new pattern of tactics by Britain First to abuse, threaten and intimidate asylum-seekers by invading their accommodation.

The thugs have filmed their actions and posted them on social media in a bid to stir up racial hatred.

A hotel near Birmingham housing asylum-seekers was also invaded recently.

Britain First and its leader Paul Golding also marched against a council social services office in Bradford in West Yorkshire, demanding information about alleged grooming of young women by Asian men.

Similar actions by neonazi groups in Germany have escalated into arson attacks and even murder.

Coventry Stand Up to Racism (SUTR), which organised the protest, said in a statement: “Britain First targeted two hotels in Coventry that are known to be used by the Home Office to house asylum-seekers.

“Britain First are not welcome in Coventry, which has a long history of fighting racism and welcoming refugees.

“We wanted to show support for asylum-seekers and migrants in our city.”

The group has visited the Coventry Hill Hotel to meet the residents and take food donations.

“Asylum-seekers housed there have asked for fruit, biscuits, nuts, snack bars, fruit juices, powdered milk, bread and tins of tuna,” SUTR said. “They have no cooking or refrigeration facilities.”

In December 2016, the Britain First leader was sentenced to eight weeks’ imprisonment for breaching a court order banning him from entering a mosque or encouraging others to do so.

On March 7 2018 he was imprisoned for religiously aggravated harassment.
