HEALTH unions called off Monday’s planned ambulance strike in Wales over the weekend as talks with the Welsh government to resolve the dispute continue.
Unite Wales said it had suspended strike action following significant progress in talks with the Cardiff Bay administration.
GMB members in Wales have also agreed to suspend action for further talks with the ambulance trust and the Welsh government welcomed the suspension of the planned strike.
National officer Nathan Holman said no extra money had been offered, but talks on terms and conditions had been held.
The union said that the suspension came after “positive and intensive” negotiations on Friday.
“We did not take the decision to call off strike action lightly and no suspension of future action has been agreed by us or Unite at this stage,” the union said on Twitter.
The Welsh government had tabled an offer that included the £1,400 consolidated increase from the NHS pay review body and a further 3 per cent, of which 1.5 per cent is consolidated into pay and backdated to April 2022.
It also committed to include any improved pay settlement reached in England.
Welsh ministers and the unions will resume talks later today.
