TWENTY-TWO Senedd candidates have signed a campaign group’s petition for a “genuine and independent” disability review, Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) Cymru announced today.
Plaid Cymru made up 10 of the signatories, followed by five from the Welsh Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition and two from the Greens.
The Socialist Labour Party, Open Party, and independent candidates including former MP Beth Winter also backed the call amid concerns over Westminster’s so-called Timms review into PIP disability benefits.
DPAC Cymru maintains that “genuine co-production of the review is not happening as promised, with cuts to Motability already indirectly undermining the benefit.”
It collected the signatures over a seven-day period.
Signatories vowed to “support calls for a genuine and independent disability review, led by disabled people and their organisations, inviting the views of carers and trade unions” and to “call on the incoming Welsh government to do its part in supporting that review.”
