Legoland has been targeted by fascist groups as it readies to host a family-oriented Muslim event.

The Windsor attraction has been forced to close its doors this Sunday after being threatened by the English Defence League and splinter group Casuals United.

It was reported that the theme park had received abusive calls and emails from white supremacist organisations against a day-out organised by the Muslim Research and Development Foundation (MRDF).

Thames Valley Police was consulted and management cancelled the event for the safety of the thousands of families set to attend.

A Legoland representative told the press: "Deliberate misinformation fuelled by a small group with a clear agenda was designed expressly to achieve this outcome.

"We are appalled at what has occurred and at the fact that the real losers in this are the many families and children who were looking forward to an enjoyable day out at Legoland."

In a vitriolic post about the private hire of the resort by "barbaric" people, a BNP blogger suggested that Legoland "should be ashamed of themselves for bowing to these Muslims."

Social media website Twitter was also set abuzz with self-appointed "peaceful hooligans" clashing with the general public over the park's closure.

But replies described the threats as "juvenile," "vicious" and "disturbing."
