HUNDREDS of mock For Sale signs appeared outside London homes in Chelsea and Fulham yesterday in an effort to stop an international trade deal tampering with public services.

Over 1,900 residents signed a petition to remove references to the NHS from negotiations between the US and EU on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

Campaigners focused on the constituency of Treasury Secretary Greg Hands in the hope that the MP would press Prime Minister David Cameron to veto the NHS’s inclusion in the deal.

“The people of Chelsea and Fulham do not believe it is right for the NHS to be part of an EU trade deal,” said resident Jim Grealy.

“We are due to have our excellent Charing Cross Hospital demolished and replaced by a mini-hospital with much reduced services. But with TTIP we might lose the entire NHS to multinational companies whose sole interest is their profit margins.

“As a member of the cabinet, Greg Hands has a real opportunity to defend our NHS from an EU trade deal that means the irreversible sell-off of the NHS.”

The borough is the latest area to join a network that has so far organised over 100,000 actions.

“It is our NHS and we must protect it,” said Mr Grealy.

“The Conservative government does not have a mandate to allow the sell-off of the NHS to become permanent.”

Campaigners in other constituencies, including those of Business Secretary Sajid Javid and Employment Minister Priti Patel, have already taken action.
