Wales TUC welcomes ministerial statement supporting trade unions in Wales

TRADE UNIONS in Wales today welcomed the Welsh government’s continued commitment to working with the movement.

Wales TUC was responding to social partnership minister Hannah Blythyn’s statement in the Senedd about last week’s Heart Unions campaign.

Wales TUC general secretary Shavanah Taj said: “The Welsh government’s continued commitment to unions is good for the health of industrial relations in Wales and good for workers.

“This message could not be in starker contrast to the Westminster government’s continued attacks on workers and their right to a collective voice.”

Ms Blythyn, in her statement to the Senedd, said: “The Welsh government support for the trade union movement is driven by our firm belief that trade unions are fundamental to fair work.

“Being a trade unionist has had a profound impact on me, and I am proud to be part of a government which values the contributions the labour movement has made and continues to make to all of our lives.

“We believe being in a trade union is the best way to protect rights at work, improve pay, terms and conditions and ensure the workers’ voice is heard.”
