SCOTTISH First Minister Humza Yousaf condemned the “pro-Brexit Labour Party” today as the SNP revved up its general election campaign.

Ahead of a pro-EU student event in Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park, Mr Yousaf took a swipe at Sir Keir Starmer’s switch from backing a second EU referendum in 2019 as shadow Brexit secretary to accepting the 2016 ballot result as Labour leader.

Mr Yousaf said this was “just one of the many promises Keir Starmer has U-turned on.”

Calling for voters to back SNP plans to “exit Brexit” and support Scottish separation from the UK in order to rejoin the EU, Mr Yousaf said “the pro-Brexit Labour party has failed Scotland’s young people.” 

“Brexit and Westminster aren’t working for Scotland,” he said. “The SNP is the only party at the upcoming election offering Scotland a route back into the EU with the full powers of independence.”

Scottish Labour’s Ian Murray MP responded: “Fresh from siding with oil and gas giants against working people, Humza Yousaf and his Tory-enabling party are once more turning their fire on the only party that can replace the SNP.

“This is what the SNP and their politics of grievance and division are so scared of.”
