Palestine activists urge council to divest pensions from companies complicit in Gaza genocide

PRO-PALESTINE activists in north London have urged their local council to divest pensions from Israeli companies complicit in the Gaza genocide.

Tottenham and Haringey Palestine Action will stage a “divest and dance” demonstration outside a meeting of Haringey council’s pension fund committee next Tuesday.

A group spokeswoman said the protest would be backed by “many local residents, businesses and community organisations.

“Haringey’s pensions, like many other London councils, are invested in companies like Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit, Caterpillar, Boeing, Lockheed Martin and a number of businesses active in illegal settlements across occupied Palestine,” she added.

“As the government threatens to curb the right to peaceful protest outside politicians’ workplaces, this novel form of protesting will provide an example of a disruptive action.”

She added: “We are escalating our tactics. We’ve submitted formal proposal for Haringey’s council pension fund to divest from comprises complicit in the genocide, occupation and building of illegal settlements in Palestine.”

The council was contacted for comment.
